A 28-year-old man, Temitope Adeyemi, was arraigned on Thursday before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly committing malicious damage.
Adeyemi, who has no fixed address, faced a one-count charge of malicious damage. The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant allegedly damaged a motorcycle belonging to Ayorinde Akinbode on Jan. 5 at about 10 a.m. in Basiri Area, Ado-Ekiti, by pouring salt into the engine.
Oriyomi said the act was allegedly motivated by a prior disagreement, with Adeyemi claiming he sought revenge after linking a past illness to a previous fight with the complainant. The offence contravenes Section 363 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
Adeyemi pleaded not guilty to the charge. His counsel, Mr. Omowunmi Olowolafe, requested bail, promising that his client would not abscond. The prosecution opposed bail, describing the act as malicious.
Chief Magistrate Mr. Abayomi Adeosun denied bail but ordered Adeyemi to repair the motorcycle engine before being considered for release. The case was adjourned to Feb. 6 for hearing.
