A driver was successfully rescued by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) after being trapped in a multi-vehicle crash on the Ojota inbound section of Ikorodu Road.
The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation, Mr Sola Giwa, provided details of the incident in a statement on Sunday, emphasizing the need for cautious and responsible driving.
He stressed that the accident highlights the importance of obeying speed limits, staying patient behind the wheel, and remaining alert in areas with high pedestrian activity.
According to Giwa, preliminary reports indicated that a Toyota Sienna (KRD 311 JH) had slowed to allow a large group of pedestrians to cross safely, with a mini truck stopped directly behind it.
A Volkswagen commercial bus, however, failed to slow down and collided violently with the two stationary vehicles. The impact trapped the bus driver inside the mangled wreckage, requiring an immediate and coordinated rescue effort.
LASTMA operatives quickly deployed specialized extrication equipment and freed the trapped driver, preventing what could have been a fatal outcome.
Fellow commercial motorists at the scene transported the critically injured driver to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment.
Security support was provided by officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Area ‘H’ Ogudu Division, who controlled the crowd, secured the accident site, and facilitated the rescue operation.
Giwa reiterated the need for strict adherence to traffic rules and the cultivation of responsible driving practices, noting that these are essential for reducing road accidents and protecting lives.
