Lagos, NDLEA collaborate to curb illicit drug activities in estates

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to collaborate with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to curb the sale and consumption of illicit drugs within state-owned housing estates.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Housing, Mr. Abdulhafis Toriola, disclosed this in a statement by the ministry’s Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Ganiu Lawal, on Thursday in Ikeja.

Toriola made the commitment while receiving a delegation from the NDLEA led by the Lagos State Commander, Mr. Abubakar Liman Wali, during a courtesy visit to his office.

He applauded the NDLEA for its relentless efforts in fighting drug trafficking, abuse, and related crimes across the country, as well as its initiatives in public enlightenment and rehabilitation of drug users.

The permanent secretary reaffirmed the ministry’s readiness to work closely with the NDLEA to prevent the spread of drug peddling and support rehabilitation programmes for addicts.

He noted that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration remains committed to eradicating illicit drug activities among youths, emphasizing that a drug-free society is crucial for healthy living and sustainable urban development.

In response, NDLEA Commander Wali commended the state government for its willingness to collaborate, pledging that the agency would continue to promote discipline, civic responsibility, and community safety in its ongoing fight against drug abuse.

The meeting ended with both parties agreeing to strengthen coordination efforts aimed at ensuring safer and drug-free residential communities across Lagos State.
