Katsina Lawmaker Extends ₦106m Scholarship Support to Students in Need

The Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Nasir Yahya-Daura, has rolled out a scholarship initiative worth ₦106 million to support indigent students within his Daura constituency.

The presentation ceremony, held on Thursday in Daura, took place under the Nasiriyya Educational Programme Special Scholarship Scheme.

Gov. Dikko Radda, who presided over the launch, applauded the speaker for what he described as an outstanding contribution to educational advancement and human capital development.

Radda commended the initiative, noting that it reflected strong leadership, compassion, and a commitment to empowering young people.

He added that the gesture complemented the state government’s ongoing reforms aimed at broadening access to quality education.

According to the governor, “This effort goes beyond settling fees; it is about restoring hope, creating opportunities, and safeguarding the future of our children.

“What Yahya-Daura has done is remarkable and aligns perfectly with our vision to ensure that no child in Katsina is unable to pursue education because of financial challenges.”

He urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the support by maintaining academic excellence, discipline, and integrity.

“You must treat this opportunity with seriousness, remain dedicated, and serve as worthy representatives of your communities and the state,” he said.

In his remarks, the speaker explained that the scholarship scheme was designed to remove financial barriers, assist vulnerable households, and guarantee that students from the constituency are not left behind academically.

He noted that 662 students benefitted during the scheme’s first phase, with ₦32.7 million allocated across several tertiary institutions and basic schools.

Yahya-Daura further disclosed that the disbursement process was carried out in three stages: 514 beneficiaries in September 2024, 105 in November 2024, and 13 more added subsequently.

This brought the total to 662 students under the programme’s four-year intervention framework.

He added that the committee overseeing the programme would revisit the institutions in 2026 to begin the second cycle of payments for all beneficiaries.
