KAROTA Hands Over Seized Trucks of Alcoholic Drinks to Hisbah for Destruction

The Kano State Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) has handed over three trucks conveying alcoholic beverages to the Kano State Hisbah Board for destruction.

KAROTA Managing Director, Mr. Faisal Mahmud, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Kano by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Ibrahim.

Mahmud said the trucks, carrying 410 cartons and 4,920 bottles of beer, were intercepted by KAROTA operatives during a night patrol along major streets within the Kano metropolis. According to him, the consignments were being transported for delivery to various locations in the city.

He noted that the interception was in line with KAROTA’s mandate to monitor and report suspicious movements, adding that the agency would sustain its surveillance to prevent the circulation of intoxicants considered harmful to public health.

Receiving the seized trucks, the Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, commended KAROTA personnel for their vigilance. Represented by the Head of the Intoxicants Unit, Chief Superintendent Sani Nasidi, Daurawa assured that due process would be followed before destroying the confiscated items.

He added that the Hisbah Board would continue to collaborate with KAROTA to curb the smuggling of prohibited items into Kano State and prayed for divine reward for the officers involved in the operation.
