Kano Council Imposes Curfew in Two Fagge Wards After Violent Clashes

Kano, May 18, 2026

Authorities in Fagge Local Government Area have announced a nighttime curfew in two wards following repeated violent clashes involving rival youth gangs popularly referred to as ‘Yan Daba.

The unrest reportedly triggered attacks on residents and raised concerns over security in the affected communities.

The development was confirmed in a statement released on Monday by the council’s Information Officer, Tasi’u Yahaya-Dadinduniya.

According to the statement, the chairman of the local government council, Alhaji Salisu Usman-Masu, approved the curfew after holding an emergency security meeting with community stakeholders to address the growing violence.

Under the directive, movement will be restricted daily between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. in the Fagge D1 and Fagge D2 wards.

The council said the decision became necessary following persistent clashes among youths in the area, which have reportedly resulted in deaths and heightened tension within the communities.
