Kaduna Governor Pledges Foundation to Honour Late Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has pledged to establish a foundation to immortalise the late Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, aiming to preserve his lifelong commitment to inter-religious harmony and peaceful coexistence. The pledge was made during a condolence visit to the cleric’s family on Sunday.

Sani, who led a 30-member delegation, said the Kaduna State Government would set up a committee comprising the late Sheikh’s family, his students, and other stakeholders to oversee the foundation’s creation. He noted that the initiative would honour Sheikh Bauchi’s contributions to Islam, governance, and national unity, despite the cleric being a native of Bauchi State.

“The proposed foundation will not only sustain the ideals and legacies of the late cleric but also implement projects and initiatives he envisioned during his lifetime,” the governor said.

Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Alhaji Mohammed Jatau, recalled that Sani had called Governor Bala Mohammed from China to express condolences following the cleric’s passing on November 27. Jatau added that Kaduna State had also set up a committee to receive condolences from students and well-wishers.

On behalf of the family, Khalifa Sayyid Ibrahim, a son of the deceased, praised Sani for his consistent relationship with the late Sheikh and for personally visiting to condole with the family. He also welcomed the governor’s promise to rebuild the cleric’s childhood residence.

Members of the delegation included the Kaduna State House Speaker Yusuf Liman, leaders of Fityanul Islam of Nigeria, Chief Imam of Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi Mosque, and representatives from multiple northern states, alongside senior officials of the Kaduna State Government.

The governor assured that his administration would continue the late Sheikh’s efforts in promoting unity among Muslims and peaceful coexistence across religious divides in Kaduna and nationwide.
