Jigawa Allocates N575m for Dyke to Tackle Recurrent Flooding

The Jigawa State Government has set aside ₦575 million for a major embankment and dyke project aimed at reducing the impact of recurring floods in the state.

Commissioner for Information, Youths, Sports and Culture, Sagir Musa, disclosed this after the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting on Tuesday in Dutse.

He explained that the project will focus on rehabilitating the embankment along the Gambara–Waza–Dutse Road, a critical route threatened by flood erosion. The intervention is expected to protect the road, improve vehicular movement, and enhance safety for surrounding communities.

Musa noted that the initiative reflects Governor Umar Namadi’s commitment to environmental sustainability, economic growth, and improved infrastructure. He said the Waza embankment would not only shield nearby settlements from flooding but also boost trade and connectivity between rural and urban areas, safeguarding lives and property.

The council also approved an organogram for the newly created Ministry of Livestock Development, designed to strengthen the agricultural sector and promote sustainable livestock production. According to Musa, the ministry will help advance value chains, improve animal health services, and open up economic opportunities for farmers and herders.

He added that the ministry’s structure will enable it to roll out policies and programmes aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, which prioritises food security, agricultural diversification, and inclusive economic growth.

With the approval of the organogram, Musa said, the ministry can now begin full operations, coordinating interventions that drive innovation and support livestock entrepreneurship across Jigawa.
