The Northern Nigeria Youth Leaders Forum (NNYLF) has cautioned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and activist Omoyele Sowore against exploiting the detention of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, for political purposes.
This was stated in a press release issued by the forum’s National President, Mr. Murtala Gamji, on Wednesday in Abuja.
Gamji said the group would not tolerate any attempt by political figures to use Kanu’s situation as a means to score political points or stir national unrest.
He noted that both Atiku and Sowore had recently called on the Federal Government to release Kanu, but urged them to allow the legal process in the ongoing terrorism case to take its course.
The youth leader also advised President Bola Tinubu to remain focused and not be distracted by what he described as “political theatrics.”
“We are making it clear that Northern youths are not part of any movement or rally being planned to demand Kanu’s release,” Gamji stated.
He alleged that the proposed demonstration was an attempt to use the Biafran agitator’s detention as a cover for political mobilization.
“The biggest mistake they are making,” he added, “is assuming that Nigerians, particularly Northern youths, will support such an agenda. Instead, millions of us will gather in Abuja from Oct. 20 to 23 to show solidarity with President Tinubu’s administration.”
Gamji further urged Sowore to exercise restraint in his public statements and actions, emphasizing that incitement or divisive rhetoric would only harm national unity.
