Governor Ahmed Ododo of Kogi State has pledged to safeguard communities across the state by investing in infrastructure that will mitigate the threats of flooding and erosion. The assurance was contained in a statement issued in Lokoja on Saturday by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo. The governor explained that the new infrastructure is designed to offer long-term solutions to ecological problems facing the state. He emphasized that his administration is committed to transforming Kogi with projects that prioritize safety, sustainability, and improved living standards.According to him, recently completed drainage systems in Etahi, Omigbo, and Olubojo in Ankpa are already proving effective.“Our drainage channels are functioning as intended. They are collecting and redirecting stormwater efficiently, which greatly reduces the risk of flooding. Within minutes of rainfall, water is dispersed, leaving roads and neighborhoods secure,” he stated.Ododo further noted that the state is maximizing the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project to boost flood management and restore lands previously ravaged by erosion. He highlighted the contributions of the ACReSAL team under Mr. Ladi Jatto, describing the initiative as a turning point for sustainable environmental management in Kogi. The governor added that his administration’s environmental agenda is rooted in building resilient communities through solutions tailored to local needs.Ododo stressed that Kogi is now moving away from a reactive approach to ecological disasters and is instead adopting proactive strategies that prevent them. He described this as the beginning of a new era in flood prevention and environmental protection across the state.
