A fatal crash at New Garage, inward Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, has claimed the life of one person and left nine others injured.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Public Education Officer, Route Commander Oluwadamilola Jayeola, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday in Lagos.
According to her, the crash occurred around 6:55 a.m. and involved a white Iveco truck, registered MEK 34 XC, and a white Toyota commercial bus with registration ENU 814 XJ.
“Sadly, one male passenger died in the accident, while nine others — eight men and one woman — sustained varying degrees of injury. None of the passengers escaped unhurt,” she said.
The FRSC rescue team swiftly moved the injured to the Emergency Centre in Ojota and the Gbagada General Hospital, while the deceased was taken to the Real Divine Hospital Mortuary, Ibafo. The road obstruction was promptly cleared to restore free traffic flow.
Jayeola added that officers from the Motor Traffic Division (MTD) of the Ojodu Abiodun Police Division had taken custody of the vehicles, with investigations ongoing. Preliminary findings indicated speeding and road obstruction as likely causes of the crash.
Meanwhile, the Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.
Hamzat cautioned motorists against speeding, especially during the ember months, stressing that many avoidable accidents occur due to reckless driving. He assured the public of FRSC’s commitment to safer highways and the protection of lives and property across the country.
