Former Minister of Environment, Mohammed Abdullahi, has lauded the suspension of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Chairman in Nasarawa State, Mr Godwin Alaku, describing it as a strong message on the party’s commitment to discipline and internal cohesion.
Abdullahi made the remarks on Friday in Keffi Local Government Area during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The suspension followed allegations that Alaku engaged in anti-party activities, including refusal to recognise the national leadership under Sen. David Mark and blocking integration of coalition members into the state party structure. The ADC subsequently set up a disciplinary committee to investigate the matter.
Abdullahi said the move aimed to strengthen the party, prevent conflicts, and ensure discipline ahead of the 2027 general elections. “What we are doing is not to weaken the party, but to strengthen it through discipline, order and due process,” he said.
He also commended the appointment of a transition leadership team led by former Nasarawa State Deputy Governor, Chief Michael Abdul, to reinforce party structures.
National Deputy Chairman of the ADC, Mrs Patricia Akwashiki, noted that mediation efforts had failed, saying the suspended chairman’s refusal to recognise national leadership hindered the party’s agenda. She urged the Acting State Chairman, Barr. Paul Ajeh, to work towards unity and discipline ahead of the elections.
