The Osun Security Network Agency (Amotekun) has arrested a suspected highway robber carrying a wooden gun along the Ilesa-Ibadan Expressway.
According to the corps’ Public Relations Officer, Yusuf Idowu, the suspect was apprehended on Wednesday at around 12:20 a.m. after a motorist, Maxwell Phillips, alerted Amotekun operatives to a robbery in progress.
“Upon sighting the Amotekun patrol vehicle, the suspects fled, but one of them was caught,” Idowu said. Items recovered from the suspect included a cutlass, a torchlight, and a locally fashioned wooden gun resembling an AK-47.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and revealed that his accomplices escaped. Efforts to apprehend the remaining gang members are ongoing.
Amotekun Commander, Mr Adekunle Omoyele, commended the operatives for their professionalism and swift response, reaffirming the corps’ commitment to safeguarding residents. He urged the public to continue providing credible information on suspicious activities to aid security efforts.
