Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, wife of President Bola Tinubu, has donated 1,000 bags of 25kg rice to Christian groups in Kwara State to support them during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
The rice was distributed to Christian women across the state’s 16 local government areas on Wednesday.
The distribution was carried out on behalf of the First Lady by the Director-General of the National Institute for Democratic and Legislative Studies (NIDLS), Prof. Abubakar Suleiman.
Suleiman said the First Lady directed the organisers to ensure that a significant number of Christians benefited from the gesture.
“The festive season is a time for charity, fellowship and sharing. Senator Tinubu has continued to demonstrate compassion through her support for victims of floods, kidnapping, terrorism, fire outbreaks and other challenges confronting Nigerians,” he said.
He expressed optimism that the current administration would bring renewed hope in 2026, assuring that food insecurity would soon be addressed.
According to him, challenges faced in 2025, including terrorism, food insecurity, electoral concerns and inflation, would be overcome, noting that the administration had already laid a solid foundation to tackle them.
Suleiman explained that 500 bags of rice were distributed to the Christian Northern Nigeria Progressive Forum, while the remaining 500 bags were shared among members of the Christian Support Political Group.
One of the beneficiaries, Pastor Adetunji Sunday of the ECWA Church, Shao, in Moro Local Government Area, expressed gratitude to the First Lady for the gesture and pledged continued support for the administration.
He described the donation as a symbol of care, hope and love during the festive season, urging beneficiaries not to sell the rice but to share it with their family members.
Another beneficiary, Prophetess Felicia Oluwatoyin of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Olohunsogo, Ilorin, commended the First Lady’s gesture, describing her leadership style as people-oriented.
She also praised Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and Prof. Suleiman for their support for the Christian community, noting that such gestures were rare in the past but had become more common under the current administration.
