First Lady Calls on Nigerians to Promote Lasting Peace

Nigeria’s First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, has appealed for enduring peace, unity and harmony across the country, with particular emphasis on the Niger Delta, as a pathway to sustainable development.

Tinubu made the appeal at a grand reception organised in her honour by the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, at the royal palace in Warri, Delta State.

At the event, she was bestowed with the traditional title of Utukpa-Oritse Iwere of Warri Kingdom by the revered monarch.

The First Lady described the reception as deeply emotional, expressing heartfelt appreciation and pride for the warm welcome and the honour accorded her.

She called on Nigerians, especially the Itsekiri people, to set aside personal ambitions and work collectively for the growth and prosperity of Iwere land.

“Nigeria must remain united. Some people describe the situation as a religious struggle between Christians and Muslims.

“Yet, God allowed both fasting and Lent to begin at the same time. That is a clear message of love, unity and togetherness.

“When we stay united, God releases His blessings upon us,” she said.

Tinubu reaffirmed her pride in her Itsekiri roots, noting that her heritage had shaped her values and dedication to public service.

“I came in appreciation of the immense support I have received from His Majesty since the start of this administration.

“The Olu and his wife have shown constant encouragement through their visits to the Presidential Villa in Abuja and our home in Lagos. I remain proud of my cultural heritage,” she said.

She expressed gratitude to Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and traditional rulers across the state for the warm reception, while also appreciating the Olu of Warri for the prestigious honour.

The First Lady announced a N50 million empowerment grant for 1,000 petty traders in Warri Kingdom under her Renewed Hope Initiative.

In his remarks, Gov. Oborevwori described Tinubu as a compassionate leader whose commitment to uplifting vulnerable Nigerians remained inspiring.

He said Nigerians were fortunate to have a First Lady who consistently demonstrated humility, empathy and dedication to public welfare.

The governor also hailed her as a proud daughter of the Itsekiri nation, acknowledging her outstanding contributions to national development and noting that the visit marked her third official trip to Delta State in less than two years.
