Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa has formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a strategic shift aimed at boosting the state’s development and enhancing its role in national politics.
Fintiri made the announcement during a press briefing on Friday in Yola, explaining that the decision came after extensive consultations with political, traditional, and community stakeholders.
He said the move was intended to align Adamawa State with the APC-led federal government’s policies, particularly President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on social welfare, infrastructure, housing, and inclusive economic growth.
“Following wide-ranging discussions with our people, we have resolved to politically integrate Adamawa into the APC fold,” the governor stated. “This alignment will enable the state to leverage federal support and contribute meaningfully to national transformation in critical sectors.”
Fintiri emphasised that the defection was motivated by the state’s collective interests rather than personal ambition. He reassured residents of his commitment to fulfilling the mandate given by voters in the 2019 and 2023 elections and maintaining Adamawa’s social contract.
He also highlighted that the realignment would restore the state’s presence in mainstream national politics, attract investment, and strengthen collaboration with the federal government for the benefit of Adamawa citizens.
The governor noted that he would be joining the APC along with party structures across all 226 wards and 21 local government areas, including elected and appointed officials.
“We are moving into the APC as a united body, bringing our political machinery, elected officials, and membership to ensure tangible benefits for our people and state,” Fintiri said.
He outlined his administration’s achievements in security, road infrastructure, education, healthcare, housing, markets, water supply, electricity, youth and women empowerment, and the establishment of new chiefdoms, emirates, and districts to foster inclusion and development.
The governor assured that ongoing projects in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and job creation would continue uninterrupted. He encouraged supporters to register with the APC and actively participate in the political process, stressing that the move was designed to serve the broader interests of Adamawa and its people.
