Festive Season: NCDC Urges Nigerians to Prioritise Health, Moderation

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has urged Nigerians to prioritise their health and well-being during the festive season, as travel, social gatherings and celebrations increase across the country.

The Director-General of NCDC, Dr Jide Idris, said the holiday period, though joyful and unifying, often comes with health risks such as fatigue, dehydration, poor dietary habits and reduced physical activity.

Idris advised Nigerians to stay well hydrated, remain physically active and ensure adequate rest despite busy travel schedules, prolonged celebrations and multiple social engagements.

He also stressed the importance of regular handwashing with soap and clean water, as well as moderation in food and alcohol consumption, warning that excessive intake of sugary drinks and processed foods could weaken immunity and overall well-being.

The NCDC boss further highlighted the need to pay attention to mental health, encouraging Nigerians to pause, breathe and recharge during the festivities, noting that self-care would promote healthier celebrations and a smoother return to daily activities in the new year.
