Federal Ministry, OSSAP-WH Launch Initiatives to Prioritise Women’s Health in Nigeria

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, in collaboration with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Women’s Health (OSSAP-WH), has initiated plans to coordinate interventions addressing health challenges affecting Nigerian women.

Dr. Adanna Steinacker, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Women’s Health, disclosed this on Tuesday during a meeting in Abuja with women leaders, representatives of women’s groups, and NGOs. The meeting was convened by the Ministry of Health and facilitated by OSSAP-WH.

Steinacker said her office is taking a nationwide approach to prioritise women’s health in national development. She noted that OSSAP-WH was launched by President Bola Tinubu on September 11, 2025, alongside its mandate, RenewHER—an initiative standing for Health, Equity, and Reform, designed to coordinate women’s health policies in collaboration with the Ministries of Health and Women Affairs.

“RenewHER is divided into three major pillars, including a digital media and advocacy hub,” Steinacker said, noting that the hub aims to close knowledge gaps regarding women’s health services and increase health literacy through accurate, evidence-based information.

The second pillar focuses on region-specific campaigns implemented with the Ministry of Health to address priority issues in various geopolitical zones, while the third pillar involves organising coalitions, symposia, and summits to build collaborative networks advancing women’s health in Nigeria.

Dr. Steinacker emphasised the need to break down institutional silos and treat women’s health as a shared national priority. Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary of the Health Services and Environment Secretariat, pledged her office’s support for initiatives advancing women’s health and wellbeing.
