A 24-year-old staff member of Sumal Foods Limited, Tobi Gabriel, on Monday pleaded guilty to stealing his colleague’s mobile phone.
Gabriel was arraigned before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan on a charge of theft.
The Magistrate, Moyosore Atanda, remanded the defendant in a correctional facility and adjourned the case until March 13 for review of facts and judgment.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Elisha Tellang, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 5 at the company’s premises located in the Oluyole area of Ibadan.
Tellang said Gabriel stole a Samsung phone valued at N208,000 belonging to his colleague, Jimlas Ayeni.
He explained that the phone had been plugged in for charging in Ayeni’s office when the defendant allegedly took it.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000, and is punishable under the same law.
