Experts set to discuss AI, 6G at international digital conference

Experts under the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) are expected to engage in discussions on Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity, and 6th-generation (6G) technology at the upcoming Nigeria International Conference on Digital Transformation (NIGERCON).

The event is projected to strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy, promote research excellence, and encourage innovation across key industries.

This was disclosed on Wednesday in Abuja by the Conference Coordinator, Prof. Ifeyinwa Achumba, in a statement outlining details of the conference scheduled to take place from November 5 to 6 at the University of Lagos.

According to Achumba, sessions under the connectivity and communications track will examine developments in 5G, 6G, telecommunications systems, and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies.

She explained that the conference will provide a platform to explore how emerging technologies are reshaping digital innovation across various sectors of the economy.

Key thematic areas will include connectivity and communications, artificial intelligence and data systems, digital infrastructure and industry applications, as well as societal impact, economic growth, and policy development.

She added that discussions within the AI and data segment will focus on artificial intelligence, data science, machine learning, and cybersecurity, among other related fields.

Other focus areas, she noted, will include robotics, quantum computing, smart city development, and green energy under the digital infrastructure category.

The conference will also examine how digital transformation is influencing sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, finance, and governance.

Achumba said the event will bring together researchers, policymakers, industry leaders, and global technology experts to explore how innovation can drive inclusive growth, improve public services, and strengthen industrial competitiveness across Nigeria and Africa.

She added that the conference aligns with national goals on digital infrastructure development, innovation-driven growth, and technology-enabled governance.

According to her, government ministries, departments, and agencies will also have the opportunity to engage with emerging research and contribute to policies that support innovation and regulation in the digital space.

She further explained that a key goal of the conference is to bridge the gap between research and practical application by encouraging collaboration between universities, research institutions, startups, and industry stakeholders.

Topics to be discussed will also include blockchain technology, advanced computing systems, autonomous technologies, and next-generation wireless networks.

She noted that the conference is designed to address national development challenges through digital innovation, particularly in areas such as healthcare, education, financial inclusion, and infrastructure development.

Achumba added that the initiative is expected to reinforce Nigeria’s position as a leading hub for digital policy dialogue, research advancement, and technology-driven development in Africa.

She called on researchers to submit original and unpublished papers on digital transformation for consideration, with a submission deadline of June 30, 2026. Papers are expected to follow IEEE formatting guidelines and not exceed five pages.

She also noted that the conference will provide opportunities for ICT operators and technology companies to interact directly with researchers and policymakers shaping Africa’s digital future.

The Nigeria International Conference on Digital Transformation (NIGERCON 2026) is being organised by a multidisciplinary team of academics and industry experts, including Chukwuemeka Okafor, Nasir Faruk, Agbotiname Imoize, and Peter Oluseyi.
