A private energy company has praised the Federal Government for its continued efforts to promote cleaner, more affordable and sustainable energy solutions as Nigeria deepens its transition toward natural gas adoption.
The commendation was given by the Chief Executive Officer of Rolling Energy Ltd., Mubarak Danbatta, during the commissioning of its high-capacity Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Daughter Booster Station located in Jahi, Abuja.
The facility was officially inaugurated on behalf of President Bola Tinubu by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo.
The project is part of a wider national gas infrastructure development programme implemented in collaboration with the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF).
Rolling Energy’s expansion strategy includes the deployment of CNG daughter booster stations, liquefied CNG mother stations, LCNG facilities and regasified LNG infrastructure across key locations including Abuja, Kaduna, Kano and Borno States.
The newly commissioned Abuja station is equipped with a sales capacity of 1,000 standard cubic metres per hour, supported by storage systems with a combined capacity of 17,000 SCM.
It also houses a vehicle conversion centre capable of converting up to 20 cars and 25 tricycles daily using trained technicians and approved conversion kits.
The station is projected to serve over 1,000 CNG-powered vehicles and about 100 trucks daily, positioning it as a major distribution hub for cleaner energy within the Federal Capital Territory and surrounding areas.
Danbatta described the project as evidence of growing investor confidence in Nigeria’s gas sector and the government’s commitment to leveraging natural gas for economic growth, industrial development and energy security.
He noted that the initiative aligns with the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicle Programme (PI-CNG & EV), aimed at expanding access to cleaner transport fuel while supporting job creation and economic growth.
According to him, the company has also contributed to the national gas adoption drive through the deployment of over 8,000 vehicle conversion kits in partnership with the federal initiative.
He added that the rising use of gas-powered transportation reflects increasing public acceptance of natural gas as a more affordable and environmentally friendly alternative.
Danbatta further disclosed that the station has already recorded steady patronage, servicing between 350 and 400 vehicles daily since commencement of operations.
He emphasized that the project demonstrates the importance of collaboration between government policy, private sector investment and public financing in delivering critical infrastructure.
He also commended the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund for supporting indigenous participation in the gas value chain and promoting infrastructure expansion.
Speaking separately, Executive Director of MDGIF, Oluwole Adama, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to expanding gas infrastructure and improving energy access nationwide.
Represented by Dr Hussein Bassaka, he described the project as a significant step in strengthening Nigeria’s gas distribution network and advancing cleaner energy adoption.
He added that the initiative reflects effective collaboration between government institutions, regulators and private sector players in driving sustainable energy development.
Adama also commended President Bola Tinubu for providing policy direction and an enabling environment for investment in the gas sector, while acknowledging the regulatory support of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
