The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kebbi State has launched its 2025 Ember Months Road Safety Campaign, themed “Take Responsibility for Your Safety: Stop Distracted Driving.”
Speaking during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi, the Sector Commander, Mrs. Rukayya Zakaria, explained that the annual campaign aims to intensify safety awareness and curb road crashes during the high-travel period.
Zakaria noted that the ember months usually record increased vehicular movement and a higher risk of accidents and fatalities. She stressed that human error remains the leading cause of crashes, urging drivers to take full responsibility for their actions.
She highlighted driver fatigue, overloading, transportation of passengers in haulage vehicles, and carrying fuel in plastic containers as key causes of accidents. Other infractions such as speeding, drunk driving, failure to wear seat belts, and phone use while driving also contribute to road mishaps.
According to her, the 2025 campaign will focus on stricter enforcement and public education to tackle these issues. “Our personnel and special marshals will be deployed across major highways and identified black spots. We will conduct free vehicle inspections, hold town hall meetings, and organise rallies in motor parks nationwide,” she stated.
Zakaria further said the FRSC had strengthened collaborations with driving schools, fleet operators, NGOs, and civil society organisations to promote responsible driving culture. She also noted that mobile courts and stop-over checks had helped reduce speeding and overloading offences.
She expressed appreciation to the Kebbi State Government for its continued support and appealed to motorists to obey traffic rules, avoid distractions, and make safety their top priority throughout and beyond the ember months.
