Education Minister Appoints Prof. Benjamin Oyelami as Acting CEO of National Mathematical Centre

The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, has approved the appointment of Prof. Benjamin Oyelami as Acting Director and Chief Executive of the National Mathematical Centre.

According to a statement issued by Mr Onyekachi Njoku, Controller of Information and Public Relations at the centre, the appointment takes immediate effect.

Njoku explained that the approval followed the appointment of the former Director/Chief Executive, Promise Mebine, as Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Otuoke.

The letter conveying the minister’s approval was signed by Hajiya Rakiya Ilyasu, Director of University Education at the Federal Ministry of Education.

Oyelami, a Professor of Mathematics, joined the centre over two decades ago from the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University. Over the years, he has served as Coordinator of Mathematics and Theoretical Physics Programmes at different times.

He studied Mathematics at the University of Jos and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, earning a Second Class Upper degree, as well as MSc and PhD degrees in Mathematics. He has also published extensively in both national and international journals.

Before his appointment, Oyelami was a Deputy Director and Coordinator of Academic Planning at the centre.

His appointment is expected to further strengthen the centre’s mandate to promote excellence in research, innovation, teaching, learning, and capacity building in Mathematics and the Mathematical Sciences for national development.Tools
