Defence Minister Says Quality Education Can Help Curb Insecurity at Kaduna Academy Inauguration

The inauguration of Kaduna Christian Academy has been described as a major step toward strengthening education, empowering young people and addressing the root causes of insecurity through knowledge and opportunity.

The academy, located in Ungwan Bulus, Sabon Tasha, Kaduna State, was officially inaugurated on Sunday by the Minister of Defence, retired Gen. Christopher Musa.

Speaking at the ceremony, Musa emphasised the critical role education plays in promoting peace, stability and long-term national development.

He noted that the institution, established with support from the Department of State Services (DSS), represents a significant investment in human capital and community advancement.

According to the minister, lasting security goes beyond military operations and intelligence gathering, requiring deliberate efforts to tackle ignorance, poverty and hopelessness.

He described the school as a powerful instrument for shaping minds, building character and creating opportunities that can steer young people away from crime, extremism and other social challenges.

Musa stressed that an informed and educated population remains one of the strongest safeguards against insecurity and social unrest.

He commended the leadership of the DSS, particularly its Director-General, Adeola Ajayi, for supporting initiatives that combine security objectives with community development.

The minister said the project demonstrates that effective security strategies should also include investments that improve people’s lives and strengthen public trust.

He urged residents to take ownership of the facility and ensure its protection, adding that the institution’s impact would ultimately depend on the quality of education and values imparted to students.

Representing Governor Uba Sani at the event, Kaduna State Commissioner for Justice, Dr. James Kanyip, described the academy as a beacon of hope that would contribute meaningfully to the state’s educational development.

He said the school would complement ongoing government efforts to improve access to quality education and enhance learning opportunities for children across the state.

Kanyip reiterated the administration’s commitment to ensuring that every child has access to affordable, inclusive and equitable education.

He also highlighted the importance of partnerships among government agencies, communities, faith-based organisations and private institutions in advancing educational development.

Speaking on behalf of the DSS leadership, Malam Musa Suleiman conveyed the position of the Director-General, Adeola Ajayi, that education remains one of the most effective tools for promoting peace and reducing insecurity.

According to him, youth empowerment, capacity development and community-focused interventions are essential components of sustainable national growth and stability.

He explained that the academy reflects the DSS leadership’s belief that social investment and educational opportunities can complement traditional security measures.

Earlier, Chairman of the Northern Christian Association, Rev. Joseph Hayab, described the school as the realisation of a long-standing dream aimed at expanding access to education for children in underserved communities.

Hayab expressed appreciation to the DSS and other stakeholders whose contributions made the project possible.

He encouraged residents of Ungwan Bulus and Sabon Tasha to safeguard the institution and support its mission of nurturing future generations through quality education and character development.

The cleric also called on individuals and organisations across the country to invest in similar initiatives capable of transforming lives and strengthening communities.

The event attracted government officials, security leaders, traditional rulers, religious figures and community representatives who gathered to celebrate the opening of the academy.

The project follows a similar educational intervention delivered in 2025 to the predominantly Muslim community of Dan Bushiya in Chikun Local Government Area, reflecting continued efforts to promote learning, social cohesion and interfaith harmony through education-driven development.
