Nigeria’s senior women’s cricket team, the Female Yellow Greens, recovered from an earlier setback against Brazil by recording a strong win over Zimbabwe High Performance Centre (HPC) at the ongoing Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament in Kigali, Rwanda.
The Nigerians had earlier suffered a seven-wicket loss to Brazil in their opening match of the day after posting 111 for six in their allotted 20 overs at the Gahanga Cricket Oval.
Brazil successfully chased the target, reaching 112 for three in 18.2 overs to wrap up the game with 10 balls remaining.
However, the Female Yellow Greens showed resilience in their second outing, delivering an improved all-round performance to return to winning form.
Nigeria’s bowlers were disciplined, restricting Zimbabwe HPC to 107 all out in 19 overs.
In response, the Nigerian batting lineup chased the target comfortably, scoring 108 for three in 17 overs to secure a seven-wicket victory.
The result also carried added significance as it served as a response to a previous defeat against the same Zimbabwe HPC side in the 2025 edition of the competition.
Captain Favour Eseigbe played a key role in the win and was named Player of the Match after taking three wickets for 17 runs in her four-over spell.
With the result, Nigeria now has two wins and one defeat from three matches, having earlier opened their campaign with a 52-run victory over Malawi.
The team is scheduled to face Rwanda in their next fixture on Friday.
The Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament is an annual cricket event organised by the Rwanda Cricket Association in honour of the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsis.
