Committee on Anioma Agitation Declares Support for Nwoko’s Return

The Technical Committee on Anioma State Creation has officially thrown its weight behind Sen. Ned Munir Nwoko (APC-Delta) for re-election to the Senate in 2027, citing his proven legislative record and commitment to the Anioma cause.

This announcement was made in a statement released on Thursday in Abuja by Ogbueshi Godfrey Odogwu, the committee’s Director General.

Odogwu reflected on the long history of the Anioma state agitation, noting that while victories are remembered, the decades of effort, negotiation, and perseverance leading up to them often go unrecognized.

He explained that the pursuit of Anioma State has endured across generations, survived political transitions, and overcome moments of uncertainty.

“Never before has the Anioma aspiration been as close to constitutional realisation as it is today,” Odogwu said, emphasising that this progress is the result of deliberate legislative engagement, strategic advocacy, and sustained political will.

Against this backdrop, the Technical Committee formally endorses Sen. Nwoko for a second term representing Delta North Senatorial District in the 2027 elections, describing the decision as a well-considered, substantive position rather than a symbolic gesture.

Odogwu highlighted that for decades, Anioma leaders have advanced the constitutional and economic arguments for state creation, yet few institutionalized the process with the precision required to navigate the legislative and constitutional pathways.

“Sen. Ned Nwoko has achieved this milestone, marking a historic turning point for the Anioma cause,” he said.

Beyond state creation, Odogwu praised Nwoko’s broad legislative impact, noting initiatives spanning constitutional reform, fiscal federalism, youth empowerment, healthcare access, security, diaspora engagement, agriculture, mining, social security, and public sector accountability.

In Delta North, Nwoko’s work has translated into tangible improvements, including water schemes, irrigation systems, rural road construction, school renovations, medical outreach programs, empowerment initiatives, solar electrification projects, and agricultural mechanisation support.

The Director General stressed that true leadership is measured not only by projects delivered but by strategic vision and the courage to address structural inequities—qualities Nwoko has consistently demonstrated.

He emphasised that the Anioma project, in particular, requires continuity, as constitutional amendments demand persistence, negotiation, cross-regional consensus, and institutional memory.

“Any interruption at this critical stage would risk undoing years of painstaking progress,” Odogwu said.

The endorsement is anchored on three priorities: ensuring the continuity of the Anioma State creation process, consolidating development initiatives across Delta North, and sustaining legislative advocacy on national restructuring and socio-economic reform.

Odogwu further highlighted Nwoko’s legislative experience, political acumen, and institutional knowledge as essential for advancing the region’s interests within Nigeria’s federal framework.

“The Technical Committee is confident that maintaining experienced representation will best serve the realisation of Anioma State and the broader development of Delta North,” he said.

The committee called on all stakeholders, residents of Delta North, and supporters of structural justice and progress to back Sen. Nwoko in his bid for a second term in 2027, describing the upcoming election as a strategic moment requiring sustained leadership.
