Abuja, June 16, 2026 — The Honorary Consul of Colombia to Nigeria, Mrs. Maricel Cantillo, has praised the artistic collaboration between Nigerian singer Bruno Boy and Colombian superstar Shakira on the track “Daidai,” describing it as a reflection of the strengthening cultural and diplomatic relationship between both countries.
She made the remarks during the Nigeria Annual Diplomatic Cultural Festival 2026 held in Abuja, where Colombia featured the song as part of its flag presentation.
Cantillo explained that the selection was intentional, noting that the fusion of Nigerian and Colombian musical influences symbolised the spirit of unity and cooperation the event sought to promote.
According to her, the performance captured the essence of cultural exchange and highlighted how shared creativity can deepen international relations.
She also described Colombians as warm, joyful, and expressive people whose cultural vibrancy naturally aligns with Nigeria’s energetic artistic scene.
Cantillo added that the song was originally associated with preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and was introduced during the tournament’s opening ceremony in the United States.
The festival, organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, took place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, under the theme “Unity in Diversity: Celebrating Global Cultures in Nigeria.”
Chairman of the organising committee, Mr. Dotun Israel, said Nigeria remains committed to promoting cultural diversity and using such platforms to strengthen diplomatic relations with other nations.
He noted that the festival was designed to encourage cultural interaction and enhance mutual understanding among participating countries.
The event featured diplomatic missions from across Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America, showcasing music, dance, and traditional performances.
Colombia’s colourful flag display and cultural presentation were among the standout moments, drawing applause and admiration from participants and guests.
