Calm Returns to Lagos Market Following Hoodlums’ Attack, Security Operatives Make Arrests

The Lagos State Police Command says it has restored calm at Tejuosho Market Phase II, Surulere, after hoodlums caused unrest during a protest over power outage.
Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Lagos.
He explained that the violence broke out around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday when miscreants attacked traders, destroyed property, and confronted security personnel at the market.

Oluseyi said the attackers vandalised part of a commercial bank and assaulted police officers on duty, but were repelled by men of the Mobile Police Force, who prevented further damage.
Following a distress call, Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, deployed additional operatives, including tactical squads and conventional officers, to the scene.
The reinforcements dispersed the hoodlums and arrested 18 suspects now in custody, while investigations continue to identify others involved.

The command confirmed that commercial activities have since resumed at the market following the restoration of peace.
Oluseyi quoted the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, as warning against violent attacks on law enforcement officers and property.
He also urged residents to cooperate with the police and report complaints or emergencies through the command’s dedicated hotlines.
