Students of the Bayelsa College of Nursing Sciences, Tombia-Ekpetiama, have received a boost in learning facilities following the donation of beds, mattresses, and laptops by the Bayelsa Education Development Trust Fund (BEDTF).
At the presentation ceremony on Wednesday, the Executive Secretary of the fund, Prof. Ebimieowei Etebu, explained that the intervention forms part of ongoing efforts to improve educational infrastructure across the state.
He noted that the initiative reflects the organisation’s commitment to creating better learning conditions in schools and institutions in Bayelsa.
Etebu added that providing items such as bunk beds and mattresses would enhance student comfort, particularly in demanding programmes like nursing, where adequate rest is important for academic performance.
He emphasised that improving the learning environment plays a crucial role in achieving better educational outcomes.
Also speaking, Chairman of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Dr. Charles Daniel, commended the fund for the donation, describing it as a timely intervention that would positively impact teaching and learning.
In a similar vein, the Chairman of the Bayelsa Traditional Rulers Council and Ibenanaowei of Ekpetiama Kingdom, King Bubaraye Dakolo, represented by the Amananaowei of Gbarantoru, Chief Igonia Dakolo, praised the gesture and encouraged other stakeholders to support the institution.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the BEDTF Board, Chief Fidelis Agbiki, urged the school management to ensure proper use and maintenance of the items provided.
He cautioned against misuse, particularly of the laptops, stressing that monitoring systems are in place to prevent diversion from their intended purpose.
The intervention is expected to improve students’ welfare and strengthen the overall learning environment within the institution.
