Bauchi Fire Service Launches Fire Safety Awareness Campaign

Bauchi, May 11, 2026 Residents of Bauchi State have been urged to adopt proper safety measures and remain vigilant in order to reduce the growing risk of fire outbreaks in homes and public places.

The advice was given on Monday in Bauchi by the Fire Prevention Officer of the state fire service, Mr Manasseh Ayuba, during an interview.

Ayuba identified carelessness and lack of awareness as some of the leading causes of fire incidents across communities.

He explained that many outbreaks result from leaving electrical appliances powered on when they are not in use. He also cautioned residents against exposing children to matches and lighters, overloading electrical extension sockets and engaging in bush burning.

According to him, certain fire incidents may occur naturally, especially those triggered by lightning during thunderstorms. He noted that buildings without adequate lightning protection systems are more vulnerable to such disasters.

Ayuba further encouraged residents to promptly contact emergency responders whenever fire incidents occur and to ensure that proper fire safety equipment is installed in homes and workplaces.

He stressed that schools, offices and residential buildings should be equipped with functional fire extinguishers to help contain emergencies before they escalate into major disasters.
