APC Gains Ground Amid Opposition Crisis in Kebbi – Spokesperson

April 14, 2026 — The Kebbi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) says it expects to strengthen its political position as opposition parties in the state grapple with internal divisions.

The two major opposition parties in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), are currently facing leadership disputes and defections. Notably, the PDP’s 2023 governorship candidate, Aminu Bande, recently left the party to join the ADC, which itself is dealing with factional disagreements.

Commenting on the situation, APC State Publicity Secretary, Issa Abubakar-Asalafi, said the ruling party is closely monitoring developments and believes the instability within opposition ranks could lead to more defections.

He argued that disunity among rival parties weakens their ability to challenge the incumbent, adding that individuals with differing ambitions may struggle to find common ground. According to him, this could prompt several opposition members to eventually align with the APC.

Abubakar-Asalafi also expressed confidence in the party’s prospects ahead of future elections, pointing to ongoing governance efforts under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris as factors that would boost electoral support.

Recent political shifts in the state have already seen lawmakers originally elected under opposition platforms switch allegiance to the APC, signalling a changing political landscape as parties reposition ahead of upcoming contests.
