APC Expels Impeached Cross River Chairman Alphonsus Eba, Upholds Diwa’s Suspension

Mr Alphonsus Eba, the impeached Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, has been expelled from the party.

The decision was taken on Monday at a meeting of the party’s State Caretaker Committee held at the APC secretariat in Calabar.

The committee, led by Mr Ekum Ojogu, announced that Eba’s expulsion followed the invocation of Article 21.5(v) of the APC Constitution, as amended in 2022, which provides for the automatic expulsion of any member who institutes legal action against the party without first exhausting its internal dispute resolution mechanisms.

Ojogu explained that the constitutional provision left the committee with no option but to ratify Eba’s expulsion.

It would be recalled that Eba had earlier been impeached by party members who accused him of misconduct, including the alleged withholding of salaries of some party stakeholders.

At the same meeting, the Caretaker Committee also considered a letter from the Boki Local Government Area concerning the suspension of the party’s State Special Leader, Dr Juliet Diwa.

Diwa was accused of gross misconduct at the ward level, including an alleged assault on the Ward Chairman, Mr James Abang.

After deliberations, the committee upheld her suspension pending the outcome of investigations by the party’s disciplinary committee.

The Caretaker Committee reaffirmed its commitment to party discipline, internal democracy and strict adherence to the provisions of the APC Constitution.
