Anambra Police Train 100 Constables in Combat Drills to Boost Security

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, has said that specialised combat and armed drills for newly trained personnel will strengthen the Command’s ability to respond decisively and lawfully to emerging security threats.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Commissioner highlighted the strategic importance of the training programme.

Orutugu inaugurated 100 newly trained constables selected for combat and armed drills at the Police College Oji River as part of ongoing efforts to enhance security operations in the state.

He stressed that effective policing requires more than manpower, noting that discipline, tactical competence, emotional intelligence and adherence to the rule of law are critical components of professional service.

The Commissioner urged the constables to approach the training with dedication, emphasising physical fitness, mental alertness, accountability and respect for human rights.

According to him, the drills are essential in preparing officers to tackle evolving threats, including violent crime, kidnapping and cultism, while maintaining lawful standards in their operations.

Orutugu also expressed appreciation to Chukwuma Soludo for his continued support of security initiatives in Anambra.

He noted that the initiative aligns with the broader vision of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen capacity building, professionalism and operational effectiveness.

The Commissioner described the development as a strategic step towards reinforcing manpower and sustaining proactive policing efforts to safeguard lives and property across the state.
