The Osun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as the Amotekun Corps, has arrested three suspects over the alleged theft of goats in Ile-Orangun, Ila-Orangun Local Government Area of the state.
The Commander of the corps, Adekunle Omoyele, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, noting that two of the suspects are from Ado-Ekiti in Ekiti State, while the third is a resident of Ile-Orangun.
According to Omoyele, investigations revealed that the suspects had stolen a total of 97 goats from the community over a period of time, causing concern among residents.
He explained that the arrest followed complaints from locals who reported repeated cases of missing goats. Acting on the reports, Amotekun operatives placed the area under surveillance and eventually apprehended the suspects.
The suspects were arrested on Wednesday night, December 31, while allegedly attempting to steal more goats upon returning to the town.
Omoyele added that the suspects confessed to carrying out the thefts on eight different occasions and admitted selling the stolen goats to a leader based in Ado-Ekiti for ₦20,000 per goat.
The Amotekun commander urged residents across Osun State to remain vigilant and continue to support security efforts by reporting suspicious activities promptly.
He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, stressing that criminal elements would not be allowed to operate freely in the state.
