Alimosho LG Rolls Out Community-Based Child Nutrition Scheme

Alimosho Local Government in Lagos State has launched a grassroots nutrition initiative aimed at reducing malnutrition among children under the age of five within the council area.

The Executive Chairman of the council, Mr Johnson Akinpelu, announced the programme in a statement issued on Tuesday in Lagos.

Akinpelu described the intervention as a timely response to persistent child health challenges affecting families across the community.

He explained that the initiative is being implemented through a partnership between the Health Emergency Initiative and the Nigerian Exchange Group.

According to the chairman, the programme will target vulnerable children and their caregivers in District I of the local government area.

He disclosed that about 120 children, alongside their caregivers, are expected to benefit directly from the intervention.

Akinpelu noted that malnutrition continues to pose a serious threat to child survival, physical growth and cognitive development, with long-term consequences for public health and economic productivity if not addressed.

He said the programme includes nutritional screening, provision of nutrition support, caregiver education and referrals to relevant health facilities where necessary.

The council chairman added that the initiative reflects a proactive strategy focused on early detection, prevention and effective management of childhood malnutrition.
