The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, has reiterated that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) remains dedicated to ensuring journalists receive accurate and timely information to support informed reporting and national security.
Aneke made the statement during a cocktail meet-and-greet with defence correspondents in Abuja.
He highlighted that effective communication is vital for strengthening civil–military relations and fostering public understanding of air operations.
“We are committed to providing timely and accurate information. However, operational details must be carefully verified to avoid compromising ongoing missions, personnel or assets,” he explained.
The CAS described defence correspondents as key partners in Nigeria’s security framework, noting that their reporting contributes to the non-kinetic aspect of modern military operations.
He added that responsible journalism plays a pivotal role in shaping public perception, winning hearts and minds, and complementing military efforts in addressing asymmetric threats.
Aneke said the engagement was intended to build trust, encourage open dialogue, and strengthen collaboration between the NAF and the media beyond routine briefings.
He commended journalists for their professionalism, highlighting how their work helps Nigerians appreciate the sacrifices, challenges, and achievements of NAF personnel.
The CAS also appealed for patience in handling sensitive information, stressing the importance of balancing transparency with operational security.
He reaffirmed the NAF’s commitment to continuous media engagement, founded on mutual respect, accuracy, and the shared goal of a secure and prosperous Nigeria.
Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, stated that defence correspondents hold a strategic position within the national security ecosystem.
Ejodame noted that accurate reporting, analysis, and storytelling by the media help build public trust, support national cohesion, and complement military operations in complex security environments.
He added that the air force values journalists as trusted partners in communicating the realities, responsibilities, and sacrifices linked to military service.
Ejodame thanked the media for their cooperation, assuring continued accessibility and engagement, while urging caution when handling sensitive information to protect ongoing operations, personnel, and assets.
The meeting concluded with a renewed pledge by the NAF to maintain transparent, reliable, and responsible communication with the press.
