The Institute of Change Management (ICM) Nigeria has urged organisations to embrace ethical, people-centred strategies in adopting technology as a driver of transformation.
This resolution was contained in a communiqué issued at the close of its maiden annual conference held on Saturday in Lagos.
The conference brought together change practitioners, policymakers, industry leaders, academics, and professionals across diverse sectors.
The theme of the conference is: Navigating to the Future; Synchronising People, Processes and Technology, for the Next Era of Change.
Highlights of the conference included keynote addresses from thought leaders, who stressed the need to balance human capacity, organisational processes and technology to achieve long-term transformation.
The ICM Registrar, Mr. Joseph Anetor, observed that technology is both an enabler and disruptor, which necessitated balanced adoption that considered local realities, inclusivity and ethical use.
He noted that change required proactive and adaptive management.
According to him, without trust, engagement and capacity building, transformation efforts are unsustainable.
He stressed the need for processes to be re-engineered to foster agility, innovation and collaboration across organisations and institutions.
Anetor stated that the conference resolved to encourage organisations to institutionalise change management frameworks by integrating people, process and technology dimensions.
“We will strengthen capacity-building initiatives, promote research and knowledge sharing and advocate for ethical and human-centred approaches by leveraging technology for transformation,” he said.
The registrar further said that the institute will establish stronger partnerships with government, private sector and development agencies for mainstreaming change management in policy and practice.
Anetor reassured of ICM’s commitment in engaging regulators, academia and industry players to embed change management in curricula, governance and corporate strategy.
He pledged that ICM would continue to provide direction on building resilience, fostering innovation, and ensuring accountability in navigating future disruptions.
The registrar added that the institute will also roll out professional certifications and continuous learning programmes to prepare a new generation of change leaders.
Finally, he called on stakeholders across all sectors to view change not as an obstacle, but as a shared responsibility and an opportunity to build a more sustainable and inclusive future.
