Kebbi Dep. Gov. hails Tinubu, sponsors for successful Argungu Festival

Kebbi State Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Tafida, has commended President Bola Tinubu, corporate sponsors and residents of the state for their collective contributions to the success of the 61st Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival.

Tafida, who chairs the Central Planning Committee for the 2026 edition, gave the commendation on Monday at the festival’s closing ceremony in Argungu.

He said President Tinubu’s participation in the event reflected the Federal Government’s strong support for preserving Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and promoting tourism as a driver of national development.

According to him, sustained federal backing has helped create a conducive atmosphere for cultural creativity, community engagement and economic advancement.

The deputy governor also praised Kebbi State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, for his strategic leadership and dedication to ensuring the smooth planning and execution of the festival.

He described the governor as a key force behind the festival’s restoration and renewed prominence on the global cultural tourism stage.

Tafida further applauded the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Muhammad Sama’ila-Mera, and the Argungu Emirate Council for their consistent guidance and commitment to safeguarding the centuries-old tradition.

He equally recognised the vital roles played by sponsors and development partners, noting that their financial backing and technical input were instrumental to the success achieved.

Special appreciation was extended to the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) and stakeholders in the automotive sector for supporting the Argungu Motor Rally, which he said added colour, excitement and wider national interest to the celebration.

He also acknowledged the efforts of fishermen, cultural troupes, security personnel, journalists and volunteers, whose dedication ensured the festival’s orderly conduct.

Tafida assured that the state government would continue to strengthen and expand the festival’s scope, with the goal of elevating it into a premier cultural and tourism event of international standard.
