Kuwait Marks 65th National Day, Reaffirms Commitment to Stronger Ties with Nigeria

Kuwait on Tuesday marked its 65th National Day anniversary in Abuja, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Nigeria and promoting democracy, development and international cooperation.

Speaking at a reception that also commemorated Kuwait’s 35th Liberation Day, the Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to Nigeria, Mr. Salim Almuzayen, praised the longstanding cordial relationship between both countries, which dates back to the 1960s.

He referenced the establishment of the Al-Sabah School in Kaduna State during that period as a symbol of the strong bilateral ties and a foundation for deeper collaboration in education and other sectors.

Almuzayen highlighted an ongoing initiative funded by the Kuwait Fund in partnership with UNICEF and other stakeholders in Kaduna State. The project, known as the “Reaching Out-of-School Children Project,” aims to support the education of over 200,000 children.

The ambassador expressed confidence that the enduring friendship between Nigeria and Kuwait would continue to grow and extend into new areas of cooperation for mutual benefit.

He noted that Kuwait takes pride in its democratic system, anchored on a constitution that guarantees citizens’ participation in governance. According to him, the country’s political leadership remains committed to constitutional rule, which he described as a source of honour for the Kuwaiti people.

Almuzayen added that Kuwait’s foreign policy is guided by moderation and well-defined diplomatic principles, with a focus on constructive engagement with nations worldwide.

He said Kuwait is seeking global partnerships to realise Kuwait Vision 2035, an ambitious plan to transform the country into a regional financial, commercial and cultural hub.

The ambassador also stated that Kuwait is working towards achieving the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, drawing inspiration from values of hard work, dedication and generosity.

He reiterated Kuwait’s continued support for developing nations through humanitarian and development assistance, noting that since its establishment in 1961, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development has financed projects in 107 countries.

The event was attended by diplomats, government officials and members of the international community.
