Wema Bank Unveils Upgraded ALAT Platform, Introduces Voice Banking and Tap-and-Pay

Wema Bank has unveiled an upgraded version of its digital banking platform, ALAT by Wema, alongside new solutions designed to make everyday banking faster, smarter, and more reliable for customers.

The upgrade, announced on Monday in Lagos, is aimed at addressing key customer pain points around accessibility, transaction speed, and service reliability. New features introduced include voice banking, contactless “Tap and Pay” transactions, and uptime prediction technology.

The enhanced platform, tagged “ALAT: The Evolution,” represents a major milestone in the bank’s digital transformation journey and reinforces its position as one of Nigeria’s most innovative banks and the pioneer of Africa’s first fully digital bank.

According to the bank, the upgraded ALAT app is built on speed, intelligence, and user-centric design, offering a more seamless and dependable digital banking experience for individuals and businesses operating in Nigeria’s expanding digital economy.

The new voice banking feature, known as SAW, enables customers to carry out banking transactions using natural voice commands, improving ease of use and accessibility. The Tap and Pay feature allows for quick and secure contactless payments, while the uptime prediction tool provides insights into service availability to boost transparency and customer confidence.

Speaking on the upgrade, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Wema Bank, Mr Moruf Oseni, said the development was driven by the bank’s commitment to redefining digital banking in Africa.

“By understanding the future of banking and listening closely to our customers, we have upgraded ALAT by Wema into a platform that is smart, intelligent, and dependable,” Oseni said.

“ALAT: The Evolution is more than an upgrade; it is a clear demonstration of our commitment to redefining digital banking in Africa,” he added.

Oseni noted that the new version strengthens the bank’s promise to deliver innovations that enhance how customers live, work, and transact daily.

He explained that existing customers can migrate seamlessly by updating the ALAT app via the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and signing in with their current details, with all account information and transaction history remaining intact. New customers can complete onboarding by downloading the app and following the “Get Started” process.

Also speaking, the Chief Digital Officer of Wema Bank, Mr Olusegun Adeniyi, said the upgrade was designed to enhance not just functionality but the overall banking experience.

He noted that by integrating voice banking, contactless payments, and predictive reliability features, the bank was delivering a platform capable of responding intelligently to customer needs.

Adeniyi added that the upgrade reflects Wema Bank’s long-term digital vision of building an adaptive, intuitive, and consistently available digital banking platform.
