Gov. Sule Mourns Late Senator Godiya Akwashiki, Describes Death as Major Loss

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has expressed condolences to the family of late Senator Godiya Akwashiki over his death.

Senator Akwashiki, who represented Nasarawa North Senatorial District, died at the age of 52 in an Indian hospital after a prolonged illness.

In a condolence message issued on Friday in Lafia, Governor Sule described the death as a profound loss to Nasarawa State, the nation and the people of Nasarawa North.

He said the state had lost an illustrious son, describing the late senator as an accomplished public servant, a courageous legislator and a committed son of the state.

According to the governor, Akwashiki was known for his humility, dedication and strong connection with the grassroots, qualities that defined his political career and service to his constituents.

“The loss is painful not only to his immediate family, the Eggon nation and the people of Nasarawa North, but to the entire state and the country,” Sule said.

He added that the legacy of honour, leadership and steadfast commitment to the development of the state left behind by the late senator would continue to be remembered.

On behalf of the state government and people of Nasarawa, the governor extended condolences to the family of the deceased, the Aren Eggon, the Eggon Traditional Council, the National Assembly and all those mourning him.

Sule prayed for the repose of the senator’s soul and asked God to grant his family and the people of the state the strength to bear the loss.

Until his death, Senator Akwashiki was a member of the Social Democratic Party and had previously served as Majority Leader and Deputy Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly. He was first elected to the Senate in 2019 and re-elected in 2023.
