Turkish police have arrested 115 suspected Islamic State (ISIS) members in nationwide raids over alleged plans to target non-Muslims and holiday gatherings during the Christmas and New Year period, state media reported on Thursday.
According to state broadcaster TRT, authorities are still seeking 137 additional suspects, for whom international arrest warrants have been issued.
The operations, led by Istanbul counterterrorism units, followed intelligence that the suspects were coordinating with operatives in active conflict zones. Police seized firearms and documents from multiple addresses during the raids.
Turkey has a history of tackling ISIS networks, including the 2017 New Year’s Eve Istanbul nightclub attack that killed 39 people. Authorities continue to monitor and disrupt potential terrorist threats ahead of the festive season.
