Crime Journalists Mourn Former IGP Arase, Hail Him as a Police Reformer

The Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, describing him as a reform-minded officer, mentor, and trusted ally of the media.

In a condolence message, CRAN President, Olalekan Olabulo, recalled that the association’s relationship with Arase dated back to his time as Deputy Commissioner of Police at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba.

He noted that even after Arase rose to the peak of his career as IGP and later Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), he remained accessible and supportive of crime reporters.

“Whether by attending our annual lectures and awards in person or sending capable representatives, he consistently showed humility, respect, and regard for the media. These qualities endeared him to us,” Olabulo said.

According to him, Arase valued the role of the press in promoting accountability and nation-building, often encouraging journalists to uphold professionalism in their work.

“His passing is a huge shock. Nigeria has lost one of its finest policing minds, while CRAN has lost a true friend and supporter,” he added.

CRAN extended condolences to the Arase family, the Nigeria Police Force, the Police Service Commission, and the entire nation, while praying for God’s comfort and the peaceful repose of his soul.
