The blockbuster Nollywood drama Phoenix Fury has been officially selected for screening at the 16th annual Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF) in the United States.
Organizers announced via the festival’s verified Instagram page, @svafilmfest, that the film is among 92 entries from 35 countries to be showcased at the event, scheduled to take place from October 9 to 12 in San Jose, California.
Written, directed, and produced by celebrated filmmaker Ifeoma Chukwuogo, Phoenix Fury features an ensemble cast including Uzoamaka Power, Onyinye Odokoro, Joseph Momodu, Ama K. Abebrese, and veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo.
The drama follows the story of Ewura-Ama, a widow who inherits a luxury resort in Ghana, only for her life to be upended by the arrival of Yali, Nigeria’s newly elected governor.
The film’s selection for SVAFF comes a year after its award-winning debut at the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), where it won Best Film and Best Director. It has also earned a nomination for Best Lead Actress at the upcoming 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
Other Nigerian films set to be screened at SVAFF 2025 include Mother’s Love, Osamede, Soft Love, In Her Shoes, and The Incredible Sensational Fiancée of Sèyí Àjàyí.
