The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has credited President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda with making cancer treatment more accessible within Nigeria.
Idris made this statement during a courtesy visit to Enugu State Governor, Mr. Peter Mbah, on Thursday in Enugu. According to him, the Federal Government’s communication machinery was in the state to observe and highlight the positive impacts of both President Tinubu’s and Governor Mbah’s administrations.
He noted that Tinubu’s performance so far was impressive, suggesting it could be mistaken for a second-term presidency due to the scale of achievements.
The minister commended the progress witnessed in Enugu, acknowledging the governor’s continuation and expansion of development initiatives inherited from his predecessor. He described Enugu as a vital part of the South-East and expressed appreciation for the state’s strides in governance.
Highlighting improvements in the healthcare sector, Idris said that the Renewed Hope Agenda had significantly transformed cancer care in Nigeria. He revealed that six cancer treatment centers have been established across the country’s geopolitical zones, including one in Enugu. These facilities, he explained, are equipped with advanced technology comparable to international standards and staffed with trained professionals.
“With these facilities in place, anyone choosing to travel abroad for cancer treatment is doing so out of personal preference, not necessity,” he stated.
Idris further applauded President Tinubu for appointing capable individuals who have played a key role in revitalizing the nation’s health sector.
He also pointed to enhanced collaboration among security agencies under Tinubu’s leadership, which he said has contributed to improved security nationwide. While acknowledging that challenges remain, the minister affirmed that the administration is committed to ongoing reforms and progress.
