The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kaduna State has called on the state government to establish a permanent orientation camp and improve welfare provisions for corps members, including provision of bunk beds, medical support and monthly allowances.
The appeal was made on Monday by the State Coordinator, Efeke Dadaza, during the opening and swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Orientation Course held at the temporary camp located at Government College, Kaduna.
Dadaza expressed appreciation to the state government for its continued support but noted that additional infrastructure and welfare improvements were still required to enhance the camp experience for corps members.
She listed key needs to include a permanent orientation facility, an ambulance, improved feeding arrangements during the orientation period, as well as metal bunk beds fitted with mattresses. She also advocated for the introduction of monthly stipends for corps members throughout their service year.
According to her, improved welfare conditions would encourage corps members to remain committed and contribute more effectively to national development.
The coordinator disclosed that prospective corps members began arriving at the camp on June 10, adding that they had demonstrated discipline and adaptability since the commencement of the programme.
She encouraged participants to embrace the ideals of national service, describing it as an opportunity for personal growth, discipline and character development. She further urged them to take full advantage of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to build practical and self-reliant skills.
Declaring the orientation course open, Governor Uba Sani congratulated the corps members for completing their academic studies and qualifying for national service.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Gloria Ibrahim, the governor described the NYSC scheme as a long-standing institution that has contributed significantly to national unity and development.
He urged corps members to actively participate in drills, leadership training, civic education and entrepreneurship programmes, while maintaining discipline, respect for diversity and a strong sense of responsibility.
The governor also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring the safety, welfare and conducive service environment for all corps members deployed to Kaduna State, as the orientation programme officially commenced.
