Abuja, June 2, 2026 – The Senate has established a six-member committee tasked with engaging the Federal Ministry of Finance on the settlement of outstanding payments owed to indigenous contractors for completed projects nationwide.
The decision was announced by Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, following an executive session held on Tuesday.
According to Akpabio, the committee will be headed by Sani Musa, who chairs the Senate Committee on Finance.
Other members include Adetokunbo Abiru, Kawu Sumaila, Sani Bello, Isah Jibrin and Yahaya Abdullahi.
The Senate President directed the panel to present its findings within one week, including details of steps being taken by the Federal Government to clear verified debts owed to contractors.
Indigenous contractors, under the umbrella of the All Indigenous Contractors Association of Nigeria, have maintained that certified unpaid claims for completed projects amount to between ₦3 trillion and ₦4 trillion.
Government officials, however, have previously put the figure at a lower level, acknowledging about ₦760 billion in verified obligations linked to selected road projects and other legacy contracts.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, has assured contractors that validated claims will be handled through a transparent and structured payment framework aimed at ensuring accountability and fairness in the settlement process.
