Vandals Bring Down Six TCN Towers Along Apir–Lafia Transmission Line

Abuja, June 3, 2026 – Electricity transmission along the Apir–Lafia corridor has been disrupted after six transmission towers were vandalised in Nasarawa State, affecting power supply to several areas served by the national grid.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said the incident occurred in the early hours of May 30 during a heavy rainfall.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, explained that following an initial trip on Line II, an attempt was made to restore the line through a trial reclosure at about 2:08 a.m., but the effort was unsuccessful.

She said the failure prompted engineers to carry out a physical inspection of the transmission route, which uncovered extensive damage to key components on towers T125 to T130, confirming that the outage resulted from acts of vandalism.

According to her, the destruction has left both Apir–Lafia 330kV Transmission Lines I and II out of operation until the damaged towers are rebuilt.

Mbah stated that TCN has deployed engineers to the affected area to evaluate the extent of the damage and determine the materials needed for reconstruction and restoration of normal operations.

As an interim arrangement, she said the Lafia 330kV Transmission Station is currently receiving supply through the Lafia–Jos transmission line.

The temporary measure is intended to reduce the impact of the disruption on customers within the service areas of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC).

She noted that repeated attacks on power infrastructure continue to threaten investments made in the electricity sector and hinder efforts to improve service delivery.

Mbah also urged residents of host communities and members of the public to monitor activities around transmission facilities and promptly alert security agencies or TCN offices to any suspicious movements.

She stressed that protecting critical power infrastructure requires cooperation from all stakeholders to safeguard the national grid and support stable electricity supply across the country.
