Tinubu Names Fadewa Homeland Security Adviser

Abuja, May 11, 2026 — President Bola Tinubu has appointed retired Major-General Adeyinka Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security as part of efforts to strengthen the nation’s internal security framework.

The appointment was announced in a circular issued on Monday and signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume. The communication was transmitted through the Permanent Secretary of the General Services Office, Dr Ibrahim Kana.

According to the President, the appointment reflects recognition of Fadewa’s extensive experience, strategic competence and contributions to Nigeria’s security and intelligence operations over the years.

Tinubu stated that the move aligns with his administration’s determination to improve coordination among security institutions and reinforce intelligence-driven approaches in tackling emerging threats across the country.

He stressed that closer collaboration among security agencies remains essential for protecting citizens, securing communities and maintaining national stability.

The President noted that Fadewa’s appointment underscores the government’s commitment to building a more effective and responsive security system.

Fadewa retired from military service after more than three decades of involvement in intelligence operations, counter-terrorism, defence planning and international security engagements.

Between 2015 and 2021, he served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser, where he played a key role in coordinating strategic security initiatives.

During that period, he also oversaw the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre within the Office of the National Security Adviser to improve cooperation among intelligence and security agencies nationwide.

The centre enhanced information sharing among organisations such as the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, Nigeria Police Force and the Armed Forces.

Tinubu expressed confidence that Fadewa would use his experience and expertise to deepen intelligence integration and improve homeland security coordination across the country.

The President added that the appointment is expected to support the implementation of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in the area of national security and public safety.
