The Theatre Command, North East Joint Task Force under Operation HADIN KAI has dismissed reports alleging poor feeding of troops in frontline locations, describing the claims as inaccurate and misleading.
The Command said in Maiduguri that circulating social media reports suggesting neglect of soldiers’ welfare do not reflect the actual situation within its area of responsibility.
The Theatre Commander, Maj.-Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, addressed journalists during a media briefing, stressing that troop welfare remains a top priority in ongoing counter-insurgency operations.
He explained that feeding arrangements for personnel are structured, supervised, and routinely reviewed through established internal mechanisms, including food monitoring committees at various operational locations.
According to him, each unit has a committee largely made up of non-commissioned officers responsible for inspecting rations, monitoring supply distribution, and ensuring compliance with approved standards.
He noted that commanders are tasked with providing resources allocated by the government, while the actual menu choices and monitoring processes are handled through the committees.
Abubakar said allegations of poor feeding were based on misrepresentation, adding that soldiers are fully involved in verifying and documenting the quality of meals supplied to them.
He further explained that periodic assessments are conducted, during which committees review food quality, take records, and submit reports supported by evidence from the field.
The commander stated that troops regularly receive complete meal packages, including main meals, beverages, water supplies, and operational rations depending on deployment conditions.
He acknowledged that isolated challenges may occur but insisted that such issues are promptly addressed, with commanders held accountable where negligence is established.
Abubakar also referenced directives from the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, noting that troop welfare is strictly enforced under a “soldier-first” policy, and lapses in responsibility are not tolerated.
He added that welfare reforms have been introduced, including improved allowances, enhanced logistics support, and increased opportunities for training and deployment of personnel.
Other measures, he said, include structured welfare flight operations for troop rotation, emergency logistics funding, and improved supply systems aimed at boosting morale and operational efficiency.
The commander urged the public to rely on verified information from official sources, warning that false narratives could undermine troop morale and ongoing security efforts in the region.
He reaffirmed that the welfare and operational effectiveness of soldiers remain central to military leadership priorities in the North-East theatre.
